Over the past years, Calypso Science has been developing high-resolution hydrodynamic representations of New Zealand’s coastal and shelf waters. Early work focused on a national hindcast, which provided a 3D baroclinic reconstruction of currents, temperature, salinity, and tides across the country (National data cube). Building on that work, thanks to PredictWind, we have now deployed a fully operational, national-scale forecast using SCHISM, capable of delivering hourly 3D fields of velocity, temperature, and salinity across the entire New Zealand domain.
New Zealand, with its extensive coastline and rich maritime culture, is a nation deeply connected to the water. With this heavy maritime activity comes the ever-present need for reliable search and rescue (SAR) capabilities to keep people safe, whether on, in, or under the water. Calypso Science and Oceanum have entered into a formal agreement with the New Zealand Police to enhance SAR operations by providing detailed tidal and current data, enabling more precise and timely responses to maritime incidents. Calypso Science is the modeling team behind PredictWind's forecast for the Olympic Games in Marseille. In this capacity, we have downscaled the Mediterranean Copernicus Dataset and created a high-resolution model for the four racing grounds.
